The continued saga which is the Maori TV - Rugby World Cup Inc, Affair, again made the News today, A couple of interesting points have come about:
1. Maori TV seems as though have been pressured to change their bid, they spoke with Rugby World Cup and asked if they could change their bid which would allow they to on sell rights: A spokeswoman for Maori TV did confirm that they were originally going for Exclusive rights.
The other interesting point is the role that Associate Maori Affairs minister Mrs Te Heu Heu played, as there seemed to be some conflicting stories in terms of the events that took place, and what was exchanged in letters to both the PM and DPM.
The rest of the article went on about how, TV2 TV3 and sore losers, wont ant to have the Maori parts, will want there own commentators, it will destroy there brand, and just sub leasing the coverage in the so called black zones, or areas that cannot get reception will be impossible according to industry experts:
Maori TV should need to just win the bid, have the right to on sell, and look at their options from there: they cant win the rights and still have the other networks dictate the terms:
Maori TV in conjunction with the Communications and IT Ministry need to get full penetration to all of New Zealand, which is in line with the ambitions of the country as we turn to switch off the old network.
